Short Description
Thomas Chatzintounas was born in Serres - Greece and graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) & Hellenic Corps Officers Military Academy in 1987. He is Senior Consultant Neurologist since 1994 after receiving education at the AHEPA Hospital, B’ Department of Neurology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He became a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD focused in Neurology in the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace on July 10, 2007, on the statement: ¨Ultrasound characteristics of carotid artery disease in ishaemic stroke¨. He has been a director for years in Neurologic clinic of 492 General Military Hospital & 424 General Military Training Hospital, teaching also Neurology for postgraduate students. He worked as Postdoctoral fellow in A’ Department of Neurology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He works as a Senior Consultant Neurologist at private practice in Xanthi – Greece. Current research interests: Dementia, Headaches, Stroke & Neuroimmunology. His recent research is focused in potential regulation of gut microbiota with dietary or pharmaceutical interventions to improve neurodegenerative diseases and/or the effects of aging.

- 1997-Σήμερα: Senior Consultant Neurologist: at Private Practice, [Electroencephalography (EEG), Biofeedback & Electromyography (EMG) Laboratory Electrodiagnostic lab].
- 1994-1996: Director of Neurology Department, 406 General Army Hospital of Ioannina.
- 1996-1997: Consultant Neurologist at various Medical Administration Positions in military units in Northern Greece, with parallel availability at the Neurologic Clinic of 424 General Military Training Hospital.
- 1997-1999: He worked in the Department of Studies in Military Medical Academy (School of Armed Corps –SSAS), while there was also parallel availability in the Neurologic Clinic of 424 General Military Training Hospital.
- 1999-2002: Director of Neurologic Clinic, 424 General Military Training Hospital, Thessaloniki, GREECE.
- 2002-2007: Director of Neurologic Clinic, 492 General Military Hospital, Alexandroupolis, GREECE.
- 2018: He worked as Postdoctoral fellow and Academic Scholar in A΄ Department of Neurology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AHEPA Hospital, focused in clinical research, having also teaching duties.
